Apparently the hashcash plugin is creating problems. At the time I installed it, it was the best thing I could find. Now that other options are available and Keith was helpful in pointing out the effects of hashcash, I took it off.

I also removed the captcha per the recommendation of the new plugin’s authors. I really hated having to add that on.

In regards to the primordials (and possibly the secordials and/or the ultimordials) I will end the series with the idea that started it, an Ice Cream Primordial. The next post will venture outside the classical elements of air, earth, fire, water, wood, metal, aether, sulfur, mercury and salt. For example, the primordials of the Prime Material plane are Howard-esque ape-men. The primordials of the any of the good Outer Planes are likely to be vaguely like an angel or archon. Vampires would be the primordials of the Demiplane of Dread.

When thinking about a list primary substances, the definitions get more interesting when you venture outside the Prime Material. There’s ichor (traditionally the blood of a god), ectoplasm (traditionally a spirit material) and the material of the astral plane (traditionally a mental material). You could even recast the shadow as a primordial of one or more planes.

Taking it to a kind of Spelljammer metaphor, you could have a primordial of one crystal sphere instead of one place. For example, you could have the draconians or kender as primordials of Krynnspace or the Green Martians of Solspace.

Beyond that, though, I want something a bit outside those ideas. For my son, it’s Candyland (and its neighbors Pieland and Ice Cream Land). For me, I’m not sure yet. I thought about a Buckeyball land with creatures of pure carbon, but that’s just a variation of the elemental. I’m looking for something like the Cash Primordials of Moneyland or the Paladins of Didactic Land or the monks of Mathetic Land. These are creatures whose primary essence is more of an idea that a physical substance.

What would a creature composed of monetary value be like? It would have to be able to change forms quickly, stay in motion and feed off the perceived worth given to it by the creatures around it. It could not exist on its own, but would need at least a symbiotic relationship with another race to keep going. I imagine these guys would gorge themselves in the presence of a dragon…

We’ll see what the future holds!

I have discovered a few things since the last post.

Twitter
The biggest discovery is twitter. On twitter, I can follow along with all kinds of folks. Through it, I’ve gotten to know a few RPG bloggers, Brent Spiner’s twitter fiction, talk to folks all over the world. Cool stuff.

RPG Bloggers Network
The RPG Bloggers Network has shown me that there are people my age that still enjoy role-playing games. Every day, there are lots of articles on all kinds of neat stuff. Just a few days ago, there were three contests going on all at once. I tried my hand at one, but missed the deadline. I’ll post all the other stuff anyway.

I enjoy reading about the Old-School D&D folks and their campaigns. I also found that there really is a 2nd Edition D&D group. wow.

Anyway, I want to be a member of the RPG Bloggers Network, but I need to be more consistent and actually finish a few things.

Open D6
West End Games is back with an OGL version of the core books. They aren’t online, yet, but soon will be. The idea is for a modular online database that allows a user to download only the rules they need.

Otherwise, the material released is quite large. It goes without saying, but the Star Wars game is not OGL, but that is more due to LucasFilms trademarks. However, adventure, fantasy, and space are OGL. Very cool. I hope that with the death of 4e OGL, that folks will give OpenD6 a try.

My Life
I have two small children. I priortize them above most everything else. As such, I’m not able to do things like a 48 hr RPG contest or work on a lot of campaign stuff. Heck, I’m not even in a game group, yet. As such, I’m not going to be able to create a lot of material very quickly. I just don’t have the time to do the marketing and promotion and production quality to do pdfs. So, no Sycarion Diversion on DriveThruRPG.com

It’s freeing in a way. Just offer it for free and let folks use stuff as they wish. Maybe one or two people will visit. Maybe more.

Roadmap

Change the About information

Fix the wiki

remove boltwire

remove discussion forums

Look to ongoing posts instead of All-At-Once posts.

Twitter integration.

Works starts now!

In the spirit of the new year and Yet Another ReOrg, all the sites hosted by me are being revamped. I plan on downloading the whole she-bang for a backup copy and moving stuff around. When it is done, this site will look the same.

Other changes for this site include a more narrow focus:

Main Focus for RPG games will be a focus on Microlite20 and Action! System only.
Bullet points

Mnemosyne and MUSE will continue to have a wiki, but will share space with a hypertext M20.

Will concentrate on creating add-ons in PocketMod, ODF, and PDF formats.

Hope to create a ‘just right’ sized carrying case for a PocketMod.

Pre-made PocketMods for sale at DriveThru RPG

For other games, I hope to collorate with a friend of mine on his projects as well as a few of my own. My friend, Jeff, has created a board game of his own and has ideas for several CCG type card games. In addition to my own ideas, we hope that this collaboration will lead to better implementation of our ideas. (As a side note, ideas are a dime a dozen. What is important is implementation.

For the blog, I hope to post once or twice a week. Posts will vary to things like variant rules to existing games or combining games you may already own. Of course, I love card games, so be prepared for various Rook(TM), UNO(TM), or playing card variants.

Happy 2009 everyone. I hope to do more to serve the gaming community and, of course, build readership in the new year.

Rook(TM) and UNO(TM) are registered trademarks of Hasbro, Inc.
