I have been working for six months on converting all the various websites into static HTML sites with search. Converting sycarion.com took the longest, pinakidion.org was a close second. Both of those sites had over 20 years of back-end changes, posts, projects, and content. The fastest conversion was an already a static HTML site which I incorporated into this site.

Biggest Change

The biggest change is that sycarion.com will become a start page. From there, you can go to any one of the various sites. To get an idea of what the landing page looks like, you can go to https://start.sycarion.com/

This site will look different and will to a new URL. It will become diversions.sycarion.com

What to Expect

The main source site will be my always free Substack. It will be the one place for everything I write. This site will be for TTRPGS, Board Games, and Card Games.

Every effort was made to save links by updating them or by using the Web Archive. Despite best efforts, some sites that I linked to are lost to time.

Another effect is that some download links are also lost to time. I have looked for backup copies in all my online storage. Only a handful for downloads were lost. All the Statis-Pro football teams were saved. (Woot!)

Projects in Various States

Converting this site took a long time because there were so many projects. One project, Lenga/Dira lost almost all the files and posts made about it. Maybe one day, I can re-create it. The 2e clone, Andras, was the largest project. Sadly, I was never able to move it out of alpha stage.

All the OSR and 5e stuff was saved, though still a little disorganized. After go live, projects will be organized over time to be more useful.

So Long and Thanks for All the Fish

WordPress got me writing over 20 years ago. I am grateful. Now that I have a bit more experience with static-site generators, I am happy to be free of PHP and mySQL/MariaDB databases. WordPress is still easier, but I am not able to maintain it.

Ultimately, this move saves me money as I have two sites that do not work with the latest versions of WordPress or PHP 8. This change allows me the freedom to make it all modern, no matter the age or architecture of the site.

See you on the other side. Thank you for all the support along the way.
