I have successfully set up a local copy of the Critterdb server on my linux box. This makes it easy to type in various creatures for the April/May 5e game.

Installed nosqlclient as a gui to manage the backend database.

I love spreadsheets, but I am finding JSON databases more workable. I'm working on the querying part of it, but I enjoy its readability.
Anyway, I have found a way to start with markdown, convert to JSON, and in a pinch, convert the JSON into a spreadsheet.
Python is a wonderful language.
